I have to confess I have a thing for shoes. I don’t think that’s unusual do you?
I used to have a wardrobe full and being the obsessive that I am they were neatly stored in their boxes, nicely wrapped and stuffed with tissue. Stacked and labelled so I could see at a glance which shoe was where.
Did I wear them all, erm not often. Did this stop me from entering shoe shops on a whim entranced by some delectable window display and purchasing more, erm no! It was only when I moved from a larger house to a smaller house (so we could afford to have our little place in Girona) that I had to decimate my shoe collection. For shoe lovers, worry not, they all went to a good home via a range of charity shops. So, where is all this leading I hear you ask. Well, on my travels and in my searches for weddingy inspiration I have been mostly uninspired by the shoes. Then I came across these, sigh.
Apparently they were designed by Philip Treacy (of the hats) for Valentino for his 2010 collection and found on A White Carousel. From what I could deduce they were sold at one time through Nieman Marcus, no doubt at some hugely decadent price but sadly could find them nowhere else. Mr Treacy also created them in black, swoon.
Then I remembered last week I found these simply gorgeous hand embellished shoes created by Sonia Cruse on her blog Vintage Rose, I tracked down her Etsy shop but to no avail
although she does have other divine things on there
Not to be deterred I thought well Sonia made a damn fine job of creating her own and if you can’t buy them could a mere mortal diy something similar. Lo and behold with a little bit of imagination and a whole host of embellishments you can
I found these hand embellished pretties on Wedding Day Weekly, although the supplier link no longer works but it does give you an idea of how with a little bit of flair you can stick pretty much anything to a plain shoe. So if you fancy a go at creating your own wedding footwear work of art you might like to visit Examiner.com for its helpful article with instructions on how to create your own, Glitter sweatshop for some simple flats inspiration, Domestic Diva for practical advice on affixing lace and the crafters staple, EHow, for some sensible instructions.
I am definitely going to have a go at this myself (if I can find the time!) What do you think would you give it a shot?
If you do I would love to see your creations, or, if any of you have found amazing shoes do please share!
